Dance Class Descriptions

We follow the Acrobatic Arts syllabus. This program is based on safe and effective progressions with proven results in five divisions of Acro Dance: Flexibility, Strength, Balancing, Limbering, and Tumbling. Simple thoughtful progressions take the dancer from log rolls and somersaults to the advanced tumbler tumbling effortlessly across the stage!

This class will follow the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) syllabus. Each class will include barre work, across the floor, and center combinations. The RAD curriculum is one of the world's most influential dance education tools. With these guidelines and the instructor’s personal influences, this class will be a strong asset for all dance forms studied at Harmony.

Baton Twirling

These classes will be learning the basic foundation of Baton Twirling. Along with learning to twirl, our students will gain motor skills, and sharpen hand eye coordination. Baton twirling also gives the students the chance to work in a team setting and connect with others.

Jazz/Ballet Combo Class

Enjoy a beginner combination class in both Jazz and Ballet! Ballet is the fundamental technical discipline that all other styles originate from. Jazz is an upbeat style of dance that’s versatility and high energy often makes it a favorite among dancers.

This class will be drawing from the swing era of the 1940’s to the melting pot era seen today, the students will engage in a wide spectrum of techniques that blend the old with the new. The dancers will use these techniques while building a foundational understanding of a traditional class structure.

The dancers in this class will be able to use a blend of modern and ballet technique, while focusing on performance qualities such as expressing feeling and passion reflected by music and shown through movement. While being led by the instructor, the dancer will have an individualistic approach to how they tell their own story based on how the music makes them feel. This style will bring out the true performer inside of each dancer.

Tap dance utilizes the sound of the tap shoes hitting the floor like a musical instrument. Our classes will concentrate on presenting basic tap technique and rhythms. An enjoyable way to develop timing and musicality.

Mandatory for company members and open to all Harmony students, this class will enhance overall technical ability. Improving strength, balance, alignment, flexibility, and coordination, dancers will use this time to master their skills and learn new choreography.

Twinkle Toes

Twinkle Toes is a combination class of ballet and jazz for children who are ready to learn without a parent. With this young age group our goal is to explore the basics of both dance forms and develop a love for dance. With an energetic mix of different presentations, focus will be to gain knowledge of body awareness, posture and placement, as well as listening skills and positive socialization. Children will develop confidence as they learn to believe in their abilities and have fun!  This class will perform in the recital in May.

Yin & Vinyasa Yoga Classes

Yin Yoga (Tuesdays at 7:30 am): A great way to begin yoga practice.  Yin yoga stretches and targets both the deep connective tissues between the muscles, and the fascia throughout the body.  The aim is to increase circulation in the joints, and improve flexibility.  It also helps us to regulate the body's flow of energy.  This class is excellent for individuals suffering with stiff knees or an aching back.

Vinyasa Yoga (Saturdays at 7:30 am): Vinyasa is a style of yoga characterized by stringing postures together so that you move from one to another seamlessly, using breath.  Postures are held longer than in Yin yoga making it a more intense practice.  Vinyasa helps build and maintain strong bones, muscles, and connective tissue to maintain a high metabolism, healthy posture, and an active body.
