When you think about skating in Saskatchewan you probably think of old rinks or the wintertime ODR’s. Both of these are staples of the Saskatchewan skating/hockey experience. In fact, Saskatchewan is a hub for cool old barns that house the many minor hockey, junior, and professional teams throughout the province. But what if we told you there are a plethora of other skating experiences Saskatchewan provides outside of these obvious ones?
Saskatchewan’s Prairie landscape lends itself well to the various skating experiences the province has to offer. Gorgeous trail systems, frozen winter wonderlands, city skating adventures, the list goes on. Each of which have their own benefits that can’t be found in another activity. Whether it be skate blades or roller blades, you don’t want to miss out on these incredible Saskatchewan skating adventures.
Skating Among the Skyscrapers in the Province Capital
The Victoria Park Skating Rink is located right in the heart of downtown Regina. With a much-needed warming shack and free skate rentals, there’s no reason to miss out on such a great winter skating experience. The Rink at City Centre hosts several fun events throughout the winter so all members of the family will have an event to look forward to.

Tents and Skates Go Hand-in-Hand at Echo Valley Prov. Park
Camping and skating? That’s a match made in winter heaven. Echo Valley Provincial Park’s ‘Skate the Park’ brings you the best of both worlds with their campground loop skating trail. Hear it from Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky himself: “Our parks offer unique experiences for all of our Saskatchewan seasons and this opportunity to skate through a campground is one that everyone is going to want to try!” We couldn’t have said it any better!

Inline Skate the Meewasin Valley Trail
The Meewasin Valley Trail is an enormous 105km+ trail system located in and around Saskatoon. More than enough distance for several inline skates along the river; or one really long skate for the experts out there. 20km of the Meewasin runs along the Trans Canada Trail; the worlds longest trail system stretching 28 000km from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Whichever way you tackle it, the Meewasin Valley of Saskatchewan is a region that will leave you wanting to come back for more adventures on its beautiful trail systems.

Glide around at the Popular Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink
Not to be confused with the Meewasin Valley trail from above, the Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink @Nutrien Plaza (quite the mouthful) is a popular destination for those wishing to ice skate in Saskatoon. The rink is located within the Kiwanis Memorial Park right beside the Saskatchewan River. Tourists and locals alike enjoy the fantastic twinkle lights and fire pit warm up area in case you need to get warm. The rink is open from Wednesday-Sunday 1-8pm when the winter weather permits. There is also a preregistration that needs to be completed before attending since this attraction is very popular.

Wascana Lake Trails are Regina’s Inline Skating Gem
The trails around Wascana Lake may be better known for running or cycling, but that shouldn’t stop the adventurous skater from making the trip. With 8.7km of paved pathways, no inline/roller skater will want to miss the opportunity to add another trail to their collection. The Lake is a true nature getaway just minutes from Downtown Regina. Whether it be a short skate, long skate, or a mix of skating and another activity, Wascana Lakes trails make it all worth it!
