The She Plays Hockey Committee is all about building a diverse sports community where girls & women get every chance—from playing to competing, making new friends and building a future in sports.

So, it’s our (and your) role to make sure they have a sports community they can call their own.
Breaking Barriers in Hockey
We are launching the She Plays initiative to champion and elevate the participation and representation of girls and women in hockey, addressing the significant challenges they still face and creating a more inclusive and equitable playing field for all.
Girls & Women Registration
In 2022-23, total North American registrations for girls and women reached 187,471, with a +9% growth rate in Canada.

Key Roles in Hockey
In important roles such as instructors, timekeepers and referees, women only account for 28% of the workforce.

Leagues (ASHL & YHL)
Over a three-year period, female registration in ASHL remained steady at 7%. Girls' participation in YHL has grown by 47% but still only accounts for 11.26% of total registrations.

Girls & Women’s Hockey Associations
While we have made strong efforts to grow participation in girls' and women's hockey, they currently account for 13% of our long-term ice usage. We're continuing to seek ways to encourage more female participation while maintaining the balance with our male athletes.

From learning through play and competition to facilitating the game for all, we are building the programs and experiences that support girls and women in sports, forever.

Guide & Endorse
Tasked with guiding our initiatives, the committee will address barriers to entry, help develop unique experiences, and endorse our efforts.
Engage & Listen
The committee will actively engage the girls & women's hockey community for feedback, needs assessment, and initiative evaluation through channels like surveys, focus groups, etc.

Provide Access to Networks
Individuals that are willing to leverage their networks to expand our cause, inviting those who are passionate about contributing to the She Plays. She Stays. initiative.
Help Us Tell the Story
Individuals that serve as ambassadors for our initiatives, and are actively promoting & participating through omni-channel experiences.
Inspire the Future
Offering opportunities and incentives for our girls and women sports community members, such as events, panels, mentorships and more.
Be Present & Be Conversational
Attending quarterly meetings, engaging in social media campaigns, offering your opinions, commentary, and advocacy for new women and girls sports experiences.
